Millions of children worldwide are sexually exploited or forced to work. They don't have the choice to say no. Children have a right to safety, opportunities and freedom of choice!
Millions of children worldwide are sexually exploited or forced to work. Did you know that globally 160 million children do dangerous work, such as in mica mines? In Africa, about 1.3 million children, are engaged in child labor in Kenya and 10,000 children work in the mica mines in Madagascar. In the Philippines, 1 in 5 children between 12-17 years of age are subjected to online abuse and India accounts for 1 in 3 of the world’s child brides.
Not to mention the countless vulnerable children who become victims of exploitation during humanitarian crises. Child exploitation is about serious violations ofthe rights of the child. The consequences for children are terrible: exploitation deprives children of their childhood and their right to education.
In addition, it is harmful to their physical and mental well-being. Together with local organisations in East Africa and Asia, Terre des Hommes improves the opportunities, safety and freedom of choice of these children.
We reached 177,777 children directly with 53 projects in 2022, thanks to cooperation with companies, partner organizations, (local) governments, our more than 1,700 volunteers in the Netherlands and, of course, children worldwide.
