Annual report 2022: concrete results for children

July 17th, 2023

Terre des Hommes Netherlands achieved many great results in 2022. From East Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe; together we ensured that child exploitation has been prevented, children have been removed from exploitative situations and that children face a bright future.

A challenging year

2022 was a challenging year for many children worldwide: the effects of the corona pandemic were still being felt everywhere. Especially for the world's poorest and most vulnerable families.

In India, for instance, thousands of children went to work in mica mines and not to school. In Tanzania and Bangladesh, girls were at greater risk of marriages and female genital mutilation. In the Philippines, more children were vulnerable to (online) sexual exploitation. And worldwide, natural disasters and conflicts impacted children and families; also closer to home, in Ukraine.

Impact for children

Thanks to our donors, Terre des Hommes can be there for the most vulnerable children and structurally improve their lives and future, despite the many challenges. Some of the results achieved in 2022:

We reached 177,777 children directly with our projects. 668,453 family members of these children and other people from their communities also benefited from our projects.

14,965 children received education through the support of Terre des Hommes. For example, Rosia (10) from Madagascar now goes to school and no longer goes with her mother to work in the mica mines.

Terre des Hommes - in collaboration with partners - implemented 15 emergency relief projects in 14 countries. This has reached 2,547,479 children and adults. Including children who fled the war in Ukraine. In Poland, children - like 14-year-old Natalia - and their families receive help with language lessons, legal advice but also vital psychosocial support.

More than 1,700 volunteers worked devotedly in one of the 42 Terre des Hommes shops in the Netherlands. The challenging corona time has not thrown them off balance, but rather motivated them even more to raise money - in often creative ways - for our common goal: to give all children the chance to flourish in a world without exploitation.

To all those involved with Terre des Hommes; thank you very much, on behalf of everyone at Terre des Hommes. Your support is a lifeline for many vulnerable children.
