Influx in FGM rescue centre after Covid-19 school closure in Tanzania

The Masanga centre, the safe space where children are protected from Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) during the traditional ‘cutting season’ of the Kuria community in Tanzania (every year in December), has seen an influx of children. Upon confirmation of the first COVID-19 case in Tanzania, the national government announced strict measures to prevent and contain a mass outbreak, including the closure of all learning institutions.
