About Terre des Hommes

Terre des Hommes Netherlands aims to protect children by preventing and stopping child exploitation. And by empowering children to make their voices count. Terre des Hommes Netherlands focuses on (online) Sexual Exploitation of Children (SEC), Child Labour, Child Trafficking and on Child Protection in Humanitarian Crisis. For each of these forms of child exploitation, Terre des Hommes Netherlands is developing and implementing projects and programmes through local partners, mainly in Asia and Africa.

Terre des Hommes Netherlands is currently building a Dutch programme including influencing and research activities aiming to address child (sexual) exploitation in the Netherlands.

About this role

As a Technical Advisor specializing in combatting (sexual) exploitation of children, you will play a crucial role in influencing policies and driving change in the Netherlands. You are part of the Research, Expertise and Influencing team and will work closely with other advisors and (Dutch) programme managers. You engage in research to form an evidence-base on the problem and the solutions regarding child exploitation and online safety in the Netherlands and advice on translating these studies into messages and communication materials. Through strategic lobbying and advocacy, you will monitor political and societal developments, identify opportunities to advance policies, and push for laws and commitments to address this critical issue. Representing Terre des Hommes Netherlands, you will serve as an expert voice in children’s rights networks and act as a spokesperson for both internal and external audiences.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Advocacy and Lobby: Driving change through targeted advocacy campaigns and lobbying efforts to influence policies, legislation, and societal commitments around child (sexual) exploitation and online safety of children in the Netherlands (in line with the Global Influencing Agenda and Strategy).
  • Research: Supporting the development and implementation of (desk) studies regarding child exploitation in the Netherlands.
  • Policy Development: Developing and promoting position papers, policy recommendations, and strategic guidance to advance TdH NL's mission with a Global perspective.
  • Expertise and Training: Acting as a focal point on child exploitation topics, providing expert advice, and delivering training to internal teams and partners.
  • Representation: Representing TdH NL in external networks,government platforms, coalitions, and events, ensuring our voice is heard on children’s rights and online safety issues.
  • Program Support: As part of the Global team (REI) offering consultation, reviews, feedback, and tailored recommendations to strengthen TdH NL's thematic programs.

This role requires a combination of strategic vision, influencing expertise, and excellent communication skills to build meaningful partnerships and drive impactful change.

Who are you:

The ideal candidate has at least a Master's education level and 3 - 8 years of experience. 

More specifically:

  • Expertise in child sexual exploitation / abuse, child trafficking, and / or online safety of children 
  • Familiarity and expertise in advocacy work and political processes of the Netherlands
  • Experience with research and policy analysis, writing and editing
  • Expert knowledge of children’s rights and intersectionality
  • Understanding of child safeguarding and safe child participation practice
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both Dutch and English (required)

  • Salary - 2.000 - 2.700 euro gross per month based on 36 hours per week.
